David Engelman , Builder: High Mountain Homes

Award winning builder David Engelman is a premier builder of high-end, custom homes within a 15 mile radius of Sandia Park in the East Mountain area outside of Albuquerque.  He and his wife, Sharon Marks, are committed to creating unique and stunning residences.  To that end they and their staff work closely with clients from the initial design phase to the final walk-through.

David has been involved in the construction industry for over 21 years. He has worked in every facet of construction including plumbing, framing, painting, sheetrock, tile, concrete, cabinet making, and trim. Since 1993 David has built over 120 custom homes in the East Mountain area with one of his primary goals being to build energy efficient, environmentally responsible homes.

An active member of the Home Builders Association of Central New Mexico, David was one of the first Albuquerque home builders to be involved in the Building America program which emphasizes energy efficiency, advanced framing techniques, and superior insulating methods.  Using the guidelines from this program he strives to build homes that use 30% to 50% less energy.  In 2004, High Mountain Homes received the Las Casitas Grand Award for Green Builder Custom Home from the New Mexico Home Builders Association.

In addition to incorporating Green Building practices in his homes, David also likes to include Universal Design aspects which might include, but are not limited to zero-step entrances, wide entry doors, single level floor plans, counters and tables of varying heights, roll-in showers, and bathroom sinks no more than 34 inches from the floor. His Concept Home in San Pedro Overlook won the Homes of Enchantment Parade 2004 Gold Award for Universal Design.

If we were forced to choose only one word to describe High Mountain Homes, that word would be integrity.

Bringing people home to master pieces.

Whether you are planning to build a primary home, a second home, or a retirement home, the mountains east of Albuquerque offer some of the best living to be found anywhere.

Fresh air, plentiful sunshine, and art gallery views are daily highlights. David Engelman's custom homes, mostly Pueblo and Contemporary Pueblo in style, blend graciously into the landscapes they mirror with their flat rooflines and earth-tone stuccos. Abundant windows open to the natural canvas of cedar and rock, arroyo and sky. Panoramic mountain views end sunsets layered with red, gold, and orange offer the eye an ever-changing natural drama. Summers are cool while winter usually offers enough snow to enjoy activities such as skiing and snowboarding.  Pockets of maples and aspens set spots in the mountains ablaze with autumn color, and when the rains have washed the area, spring wild flowers paint the roadsides and streambeds.

A High Mountain Home, built with pride and integrity, reflects the culture and heritage of New Mexico while capturing the magic of this Land of Enchantment.   Mabel Dodge once described New Mexico as "this country where life flowed unhampered in wave upon wave of happiness and delight in being. Everything has its being - the water, the trees, the earth and sky.''   What better place to live!
